Photos: 5 confirmed dead, 3 critically wounded in land dispute crisis between two communities in Cross River and Ebonyi States

Five people have died while three are seriously wounded following renewed land dispute crisis between neighbouring Adadama in Abi LGA of Cross River State and Amagu in Nko LGA of Ebonyi state.

According to CrossRiverWatch, four persons from Abi were killed when some Adadama women went to their farms to harvest cassava on Tuesday, June 21.

"The women were chased and driven from their farms by the Amagu youths, when they reported their ordeal, the youths of Adadama went on rescue mission and a fracas ensued that led to the death of four Adadama youths while four persons were rushed to UCTH with bullet wounds and one, Mr. Ikor Anali, later died at UCTH on Wednesday. While it was not yet possible to get information from anyone in Ebonyi state, some of the Adadama people on the ground allege that, though policemen from Nko police station who were on ground to maintain peace were still trying to intervene, before they knew the Amagu youths commenced attack on us."
The Director-General of Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu, visited to the victims identified as John Edward (16), Emmanuel George (20) and Lebo Linus (17) who are currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH. Dr. Edu sympathized with the victims and made cash donation of an undisclosed amount to them.

In a chat with the State Security Adviser SSA, Mr. Jude Ngaji told CrossRiverWatch that relative calm has returned to the community.
"Immediately the crisis broke, I called my colleague in Ebonyi State because we have been talking. There is a joint boundary committee between Ebonyi and Cross River to resolve that crisis you know. The Cross River Police Commissioner also called the Ebonyi Police Commissioner and a detachment of mobile policemen were immediately moved in there to calm the situation and relative calm has returned and we intend to keep the police there for some time to ensure that the peace is not disrupted while the talking is ongoing. But the truth is that the long term solution to that problem is for the National Boundary Commission to return there and do the needful."  Mr Jude said.

An Unlikely Drug May Block Breast Cancer In High -Risk Women

New study offers hope for preventing breast cancer in high-risk women. Scientist used the drug denosumab in mouse experiments to halt breast cancer growth. According to CNN
Scientists might have just pinpointed a nonsurgical way for women at a high risk of breast cancer to minimize their chances of developing the devastating disease. About 12% of all women across the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the National Cancer Institute. However, about 65% of women with a mutation in the breast cancer gene BRCA1 will develop breast cancer by age 70. Women with the mutated gene have very few options to minimize that risk. Most, including actress Angelina Jolie, resort to a mastectomy as a preventive measure. But a new study, published in the journal Nature Medicine on Monday, suggests that a drug already on the market to treat osteoporosis could be another option in the fight against breast cancer. The research shows that the drug, denosumab, can stop certain breast tissue cells with the mutation from morphing into cancerous tumors, said Jane Visvader, a scientist at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Australia and a co-author of the study.

Actress,Uche Jumbo Slams Ooni of Ife's Wife Over Gender Equality Speech

Popular Nollywood actress, Uche Jumbo has come after Ooni Of Ife’s wife, Olori Wuraola over her recent gender equality speech in which she said
that women should not aspire to be equal to men. Below is what Uche Jumbo wrote: “I have always said it…we HAVE to first understand what #genderequality is before the #genderequalitybill will make sense. “Dear Olori, The reason you can hold a microphone and speak in public rather than at the backyard of the palace cooking jollof rice while your husband travels the world, is because of women like you who fought for us to live life and enjoy it equally like anyone else “Please see below a summary of what the fight for gender equality is about: .. **If I work for 3 hours and a man works for 3 hours, we both deserve to get paid the same. **A woman can now decide that, Marriage shall mean Partnership, Friendship, companionship as well as Passion; not slavery. **I am not better, wiser, stronger, more intelligent, or more responsible than a man. Likewise, I am never less. **If a man’s virginity cannot be tested on the wedding night, mine shouldn’t be tested as well. **Because my husband has authority in my home does not make me inferior. We are both equal in essence and worth. Our responsibilities are just different. **It means that my character/behaviour is solely guided by my principles not by society’s expectation of how I “should” behave. **It means that I can wear a crown too! Ask Queen Elizabeth . “Your Royal Highness, do not be deceived, your belief in this revolution has absolutely no bearing in its movement. Stand tall, behind the king, watch as more women understand this concept, watch as they break the glass ceiling, reaching straight for the moon… and beyond…in their Louboutins. “FYI let’s not mistake gender roles for gender equality. I believe she was clearly talking about roles / responsibilities as a woman hence my repost about learning the right meaning of Gender equality.”
